Trail Etiquette

By ATVCamper · Comments (0)

A while back ago I was riding up by Allenspark, Colorado. It was the end of the day and we were heading back to the staging area when we came upon two hikers, a guy and a girl going the same direction as we were. It was a narrow trail and the girl politely moved to the side to allow us to pass but the guy just kept walking in the middle of the trail and yelled at the girl to do the same.

Dust – Whenever you get a couple of ATVers together on a dry day you will have dust and if your not leading the pack you are going to be eating and breathing that dust. Now get 50 or more ATVers together at a jamboree for example and you have a lot of dust forcing you to gasp for every breath, Not Healthy.

ATV Camping and the Disabled

By ATVCamper · Comments (1)

I received a call the other day from a guy inquiring information about ATV camping areas. As we talked it was very apparent that this guy was an avid outdoorsman and even used to raced hair scrambles in the south like me. He quit racing to join the Army and unfortunately he lost his right leg and sustained other injuries from a land mine in Iraq in 2004.

I am not one who likes the government telling me what to do, I believe we have to many laws telling me what to do already. But there are some people that lack total common sense and need to be hand-held for everything they do. It’s these people in society that screw everything up for the rest of us.

Prairie Dog Hunting

I remember as a teenager back in the 1970′s hunting prairie dogs for the local ranchers with several of my friends. We were all using .22 rifles with riflescopes and shooting from a distance of 50 – 100 yards. It was a great way to hone our shooting skills during the hunting off seasons.

Back Country Wildlife

The fatal grizzly bear attack earlier this month in Yellowstone was determined to be a mama bear protecting her young. Because of this natural inherent act the bears life was spared. While this was a tragic event is should serve as a reminder of the dangers of the back country. Wild animals are just that wild and unpredictable.

Re-Evaluate Your ATV Camping Gear

The 4th of July is a time to celebrate our independence but the 4th of July also means camping season is in full swing. While many are camping over the holiday weekend we always stay home and celebrate my daughters birthday. But for most this weekend is either their first camping trip of the season or another of many.

ATV Camping in the Rain

By ATVCamper · Comments (2)

ATV camping in the back country is about seizing the moment and enjoying what nature has to offer. Sometimes that offering is rain, but don’t let that discourage your ATV camping plans. ATV camping in the rain can be just as enjoyable as with no rain. I actually prefer a little rain on my camping trips, I love the smell of the back country after a rain.
