The 4th of July is a time to celebrate our independence but the 4th of July also means camping season is in full swing. While many are camping over the holiday weekend we always stay home and celebrate my daughters birthday. But for most this weekend is either their first camping trip of the season or another of many.
For those that have already been on several camping trips this year the July 4th weekend is a time to re-evaluate their ATV camping gear, what works well and what does not. Most of the time it is only the small ATV camping accessories while other times it maybe the camping stove, tent or sleeping gear.
For me I am replacing my water filter. My old filter still works but it is cumbersome, heavy and takes up too much space on the ATV. I wanted something simple, lightweight and easy to pack so I opted for the Katadyn Base Camp Microfilter.
The Base Camp Microfilter use gravity instead of a pump to force water through the microfilter. Simply fill the 2.6 gallon bag and hang it from a tree and run the 48” outlet hose to your water bottle, coffee pot or whatever you need clean water in. No moving parts to maintain and at 13 oz it is a superior replacement to my old 2.5 pound water filter.
The Base Camp’s filter can be easily cleaned in the back country and is good for up to 200 gallons of filtered water. With a flow rate of 0.5 liter per minute, your not waiting an eternity for your clean water. My next ATV camping trip is later this month where we will be riding from Routt National Forest up into Wyoming for several days and I am anxious to evaluate the performance of the Base Camp.
For my buddy he is replacing his ATV camping tent. He opted for the Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 2-person tent. The Zephyr is an aluminum poled lightweight 3-season tent that offers great ventilation for those hot summer nights. He will have plenty of room for his gear with a 17 square foot vestibule and at 4.75 pounds he won’t be overloading his ATV.
With ATV camping season in full gear you may want to re-evaluate your ATV camping gear. Maybe a new set of ATV luggage or other ATV accessories. Maybe you need a better way of navigating the back country so why not a handheld GPS unit. Whatever your ATV camping needs look to CampingATV.com.
