Camping tents can get pretty cramped, especially after a couple of days of ATV camping. You never realize just how limited the space is in your tent until you spend a couple of days camping in the back country. There are some options, accessories and packing habits that can help make the most of the space in your camping tent.

One of the biggest things you can do to increase the storage space in your camping tent is to minimize the amount of stuff you put in it. Ideally all that should go in your tent is your sleeping gear, clothing and some personal items. When ATV camping your ATV luggage should be used to store a lot of the items that you don’t want in your tent ant the rest can be stored in the tents vestibule.

One thing that should not go in your tent is food. Coolers and non-perishable food items should always be stored away from your tent. Proper camping food storage and preparation can make the difference between a good ATV camping trip and a great ATV camping trip (there are no bad ATV camping trips).

Utilize Tent SpaceOnce inside your tent utilize the tents internal pockets and compartments for some of your items. As for your clothing, travel space bags work great. They keep your extra clothing dry and dust free. When compressed they save space on your ATV for the trip to the campsite. They are very durable and slip them in a pillow case and they make a great pillow.

Once your sleeping gear is laid out, keep a flashlight in one of the internal pockets close to your head while you are sleeping. Rearrange the rest of your gear (should be very minimal) so that the doorway is clear. Don’t let items touch the camping tent walls, condensation can accumulate on the tent walls on cool nights and will dampen anything touching the walls.

If using a large tent with other people again make sure to minimize the amount of stuff everyone brings into the tent. To help with storage of extra items at night is to utilize an ATV cover on your ATV. Extra items can then be stored on the foot wells of the ATV under the cover to keep items dry and protected from the elements.

Make the most of the space in your camping tent and you will appreciate it especially if you’re forced to spend several hours in it seeking shelter from a heavy rainstorm. Assuming you have selected the right size camping tent, these tips should be very helpful to the overall enjoyment of ATV camping in the back country.
